This Week’s Small Pleasures #56

This week was eventful. I got stitches for the first time. Five of them.

On Wednesday I started the day off early waking up at 7am (I rarely wake up before 8am) and by 11am I had finished a batch of pressure canned beans. I was planning on going to my noon crossfit class and about 20 minutes before leaving, I put my post-workout smoothie in a glass mason jar and as I was placing it in the freezer, somehow it fell off to the ground splattering liquid and glass everywhere including my ankle. A big shard of glass had directly hit it and it started bleeding instantly. Right away I knew I’d had to go to urgent care for it.

My husband quickly reacted and grabbed our first aid kit. The first thing I did was elevate my foot to stop the bleeding, first on my husband’s office chair which I got blood on, and then higher on my desk. He checked to see for any nerve/bone/muscle damage, cleaned the area and wrapped it before we left to urgent care. This was my biggest cut ever and I was not in pain but freaking out a little bit just from looking at it and I became loopy. I started laughing, taking photos of it and giving my husband instructions that were not important at the moment like “can you please take out the jars from the canner? they need to be cooling off on the counter.”

2 hours later I got 5 stitches and it was done. The most painful part was the novocaine injections prior to the stitching and that same night when in bed the ibuprofen and the novocaine wore off. The weirdest part is that just 10 days before, two of our friends who live upstairs from us got stitches too! One cut himself with a jigsaw and got 6 stitches and the other with a knife and got 3 stitches. I don’t know what’s going on!

At least something good came out of it. My hubby decided to treat me to a day in the city and take me to my favorite bakery. Here are my small pleasure of the week:

1. As mentioned… the french bakery. Enjoyed a delicious raspberry chocolate french dessert and a spearmint and lemon myrtle iced tea. Also brought home some sourdough bread, and several mini pain au chocolats. :p

2. We went to see Ted 2 and it was definitely funny.

3. This video made my smile so much!

4. Our housemates had family over for the 4th of July and we were invited for their grilling and eating celebrations. It was enjoyable. Plus homemade blackberry pie. :p!

  5. I am not sure of those needles… a lot of baked goods would be needed to overcome the pain of those but something sweet always helps.Hope you can get back to your routines as soon as possible. Take care.
