Since back at the US, Josh had been saying that he wanted to get a baby elephant when we lived in India.
He mentioned this many times. He was being serious.
An Indian friend then told us that in India they have a saying that it is easy to get an elephant, but try keeping it. I guess they eat a lot.
When we took our driving tour in Mumbai, our driver pointed out to us a nearby place where he said you can go buy all kinds of animals, possibly including elephants. In Ahmednagar, Josh was still telling people and asking where to get an elephant. Nobody seemed to know, so I guess we can try the animal market in Mumbai, at some point.
I know for sure that if he gets an elephant, I am going to be the one who has to take care of it. But I think I will be okay with it. Elephants are truly great, and their poop isn’t that bad at all, it’s just a lot.
When I was about 9 years old, I went to a 2-week safari summer camp in Mexico and we played “hot potato” with elephant poop. I’ve always had that memory.
