This Week’s Small Pleasures #52

collagejune

Lately my weeks are summed up by having intense workouts and indulging in good foods and dessert. A good balance, if you ask me. Here are my small pleasures of the week; what where yours?: 1. I definitely felt a sense of accomplishment on Monday after doing 300 rope jumps + 150 situps + 150 burpees in 24 minutes. I also made it to my crossfit class 4 times this week. They are so intense I usually just go about three times, sometimes just two to let my body recover. My next goal is 5 days in a row!

2. Mangoes! It’s mango season in Mexico, and those little sweeties are making their way all the way to Oregon for my pleasure.

3. A new season of So You Think You Can Dance begun. I love that show, who else love that show? I’m not sure I dig the new stage vs. street format though.

4. I made these flourless chocolate cupcakes with salted chocolate ganache and they were absolutely heavenly. One of the best desserts I’ve ever made.

5. On Thursday I had my tri-monthly periodontist appointment which is an hour drive from here and hubby decided to come with me so we could go play in the city after. We ended up having a drink and some delicious pizza at a new restaurant, and then we went to the French bakery for coffee and dessert. We also went crazy and bought 1 dozen pain au chocolats. We were celebrating.

  1. Those cupcakes do sound delicious! I had an exercise routine too before I switched continents and loved it for that energy boost that you mention…hope to get back into it some day!

  2. I applaud you for your motivation/dedication to physical fitness. I can easily – too easily – indulge in all the good food you highlight here but it’s one of my top goals that sits on a shelf and collect dust – getting fit and for me, losing weight.

    • Thank you! It has been a great journey to fitness since I started about 7 months ago. I feel so good, my mood has improved overall; so has my confidence and my motivation. I used to wake up without energy every morning and go through my day feeling lethargic. That is gone now.
My goal was never to lose weight as it was to improve my health, so I haven’t tracked that. I think I’ve remained about the same but I’m gaining muscle weight too, so it’s tricky.
Anyway, I highly recommend exercise, and especially now, crossfit. All kinds of people come to my class, the workouts can be modified to suit each person’s abilities.
