Weekly Small Pleasures #116

Weekly Small Pleasures #116

This week was interesting with lots of highs and lows. The highest high award in a bad way goes to the weather, reaching daily highs of 100F. (Help me.) I also had some emotional rough times, (probably pregnancy hormones, but they just feel so real, the feelings and thoughts that come with it). And another horribly painful night calf cramp. But there were definitely some nice things about the week. Check out this week’s small pleasures.

1. Doctor Who

I’ve been catching up at night after Josh goes to bed because he goes to bed early because he works early. Anyway, I’m through episode 7 of series 9, and I just love this show. Always a pleasure.

2. Mandolin class

I was having a rough emotional day when I had my mandolin class after 3 weeks of not having one. I always feel anxious right before it (social anxiety), but always end up enjoying it. Plus, it’s really nice to be complimented by the teacher. Almost every time I have a class (warning: bragging time), he makes some comment like this week’s: “I don’t feel bad about throwing this strumming pattern at you because you’re good. My other students struggled more with it.” 🙂

3. Treating myself

On the same rough day, I walked to Starbucks and treated myself to a delightful iced dark mocha.

4. Wind

The temperature here is officially too high, but I was able to walk to Starbucks + a shopping errand, without melting thanks to strong winds. I like wind.

5. Hummingbird

This week I saw a hummingbird fly by the bedroom window. It was lucky I caught a sight of it because he came and went fast as he realized he couldn’t get to the pink flowers on the window sill. I like hummingbirds.

6. Adorable puppy

At one point walking outside this week, I saw an owner asking Maple, his dog, to sit. Maple was adorable and made me smile.

7. Morning person for a day.

On Friday I don’t know what happened but I woke up at 4:44am and couldn’t go back to sleep. So I got up around 6:20am and made breakfast for the rest of the household. Hubby was gone by 7:30 and I felt wide awake. I am NOT a morning person. I work from home, so I decided to start my day with my laptop and some cereal in bed. Didn’t want to jump into my usual later morning routine.

However, the energy didn’t stay through the day. Around 9 am I crashed and took a 1-hour nap.

Liebster Award

Also this week, I was also nominated for the Liebster Blog Award by Kathy, which includes a few questions to answer. Instead of making a post just about that, I’ll include them in this post. So here there are… the questions with my answers:

What’s your best tip for other bloggers or potential blog starters?

If you want to blog, simply start blogging! Don’t worry about the right or wrong thing to do, design, or writing style. Just do your thing, people enjoy when people are original and get personal. And over time you’ll find your niche and start making writing and design tweaks.

Who was your greatest influence in life?

I’ve never really thought about this. It must be a combination. My mom is probably one of the biggest influences as she’s the person I’ve spent the most time with in my life. What’s funny is that if you met us both, you’d think we’re complete opposites. We are in a way, but in many not obvious ways, we are very much alike.

What is your favourite type of blog to follow?  (travel, lifestyle, gardening etc.)

Travel + lifestyle + personal + food.

How long have you been blogging?

Since July 2013. Wow, really?

What’s your way of relaxing?

I get breaks during the day, but when I truly get to relax at the end of the day I like to catch up on TV shows or read.

What do you think of driverless cars?

Very excited.

Who is the funniest person on the planet?

Hmm.. big statement. I’m drawing a blank.

Choose dimples or freckles?

Dimples! I have freckles though. But I find dimples super cute.

What’s your best advice for young women today?

Gosh.. this is so cliche but be yourself. And that includes learning who you are. I think it’s the best thing anyone can gift themselves. You’ll find the people who like/love you for who you really are and won’t stress about what other people think of you. But it’s really hard to do.

Practice critical thinking and act upon your true beliefs, not the beliefs you think you should have.

What is your best inspirational quote?

Lately, this keeps coming to mind: “hate is not cool.” I don’t know why hate is the trend now, everyone is doing it as if it’s okay. Everyone is expressing bitterness and hate, mostly because they believe they’re right, or right to do so. I just can’t get by it. We need to “fight” hate with love and kindness, not with more hatred.

Can you share one writing or photography tip?

Use your voice when writing. Be careful of grammar and spelling but use your voice as if you were having a conversation with someone.

Happy Father’s Day to all dads!
