Being Silly on a Ski Trip in The French Alps

Some years ago I went skiing to Val d’Isère in the French Alps with one of my best friend’s family. It was a very fun trip.

Val d’Isère is in the Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France. It lies 5 km (3 mi) from the border with Italy.

Before this trip, all of my skiing trips had taken place in North America (Colorado and BC); this trip was a bit different. The major difference was that I was able to take off my jacket on the mountain because it was warm! There is no way I could do that in Whistler.

The mountains were stunning, with views of blue and white for miles.

My Spanish friend, Carolina and I had a lot of fun together and enjoyed being silly on the mountain.

She’s a bit crazier than me.

Which one do you think is whiter, my smile or the snow?

Then we decided to remove our skis and slide down the hill, because why not?

Off we go…

The skiing boots give us a silly-looking walk.

We got some serious skiing done too.

And we chilled and had some food at the resting spot on the mountain.

See? No jacket.

  1. I’ve only skied twice in my life, and it wasn’t pretty…but your blog makes this look like something I’d like to try again. Fun time and nice pics!

    1. Skiing is one of my favorite activities in the world. I learned as a kid, so I don’t know how it would be to try as an adult.

  2. Looks like it was a lot of FUN 🙂 We have never been skiing …. after your pictures, we are thinking we might need to reconsider it!

    1. Like I told another reader, skiing is one of my favorite activities in the world. I just love it. Since you guys are adventurers, I’d definitely recommend it. It was take a bit of patience while learning to get to the real fun of it 🙂

  3. Great winter photos. You also got a lot of blues too.

  4. I’ve skied only once in my life but it was a memorable trip with friends and something I still have very fond memories of 🙂 That was in the Himalayas, and it was beautiful

    1. Wow, in the Himalayas! That must have been quite a scenery.

      1. The scenery was amazing, but not quite as amazing as the 26 hour bus ride to get there ? I’m not doing that again in a hurry

      2. oh god… haha that sounds like the worst idea of fun.

      3. It’s sounded like a good idea at the time, but halfway along the Karakoram Highway in the pitch black of night with a steep mountainside on one side and a steep drop-sans-railing on the other, we really did start to question our decision!

      4. I wonder how that works… why do some bad ideas just sound good sometimes?

  5. Skiing is something that I have never done before! Certainly you pics are tempting me to attempt once! Good pics 🙂

  6. Gorgeous photos! I’ve never done any skiing, but it certainly looks like you had great fun!

  7. Congratulations! I have chosen your post to be featured on Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge.
