A few weeks ago we were running errands in Portland when I came across a place online in google maps that I’ve never heard of before, Salty’s on the Columbia. It was a restaurant by the Columbia River only 20 minutes from where we were. It sounded perfect. Dinner sounded fancy and pricey (probably really good) but we were on time to make it for happy hour where they offer affordable food and drink specials.
The food, the view and the scenery on the way there were quite spectacular.
On Marine Drive approaching Salty’s we could see stunning Mt. Hood and the Portland airport from a distance.
We also saw a few bikers enjoying the clear skies.
Salty’s sits exactly by the Columbia River and a marina with walls of windows and two story seating. They offer award-winning fresh Northwest seafood cuisine for lunch, dinner, happy hour and Saturday & Sunday brunch.
They had a specific sitting area for happy hour clientele. Dinner tables get the best view but it was still wonderful. I ordered the fish and chips and a mimosa because they were out of my beer of choice and I learned that mimosas go surprisingly well with fish and chips.
Below is the dinner area, where it was too early for a crowd but a couple was enjoying a celebration. It was also a weekday.
Hubby ordered the clam chowder and some loaded fries. I later also ordered a salad which was really good. The happy hour plates are not normal size, so if you’re not too hungry and want to enjoy some good food and drinks and a view, Salty’s would be a great place.
The total came to $40.50 for some happy hour fish and chips, seafood chowder, dirty fries, harvest salad, a beer and a mimosa.
I would love to come back when they open the outdoor seating area during warmer weather and enjoy delicious fare al fresco by the waterfront.
If you are ever at a long flight connection through PDX, Salty’s is only a short drive away. They also have two locations in Seattle, WA.
