11 More Travel Movies To Inspire You

A little bit ago I shared with you 13 movie recommendations to inspire you to travel. But I didn’t want to stop at 13 and I created a second list with 11 more movies for you to watch. I am a travel and food obsessed film buff, and I just had to share my passion for all these three things with you. I hope you haven’t seen some of these and enjoy them!

1. What Dreams May Come (1998)

In this film based on Richard Matheson’s novel of the same name, Chris (Robin Williams) takes us on an unusual trip to the afterlife after his death. This film is magical as it is intense. I don’t have too many words for it but it put a big mark on my life since I saw it for the first time many, many years ago.

2. The Hundred Foot Journey (2014)

This film is the epitome of a travel/food film. We have a blend of French and Indian cultures and we see the exquisite cuisines of both India and France. Through the story of an Indian family who is stranded in a small town in France we learn about both cultures through culinary banter. Lighthearted and wonderful. Just a great movie for the traveling and foodie soul.

3. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

Wes Anderson is one of my all time favorite directors and in this film he doesn’t come short as he takes us to Europe. The story is as quirky as can be, one of Anderson’s specialties, and the visual is absolutely stunning, another of his specialties. If you haven’t seen this, you must.

4. The Aviator (2004)

For me, you can’t go wrong with the combination of director Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio lead. This is a biopic of Howard Hughes career life involving Hollywood and a passion for aviation.

5. Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

Talk about an amazing roadtrip movie. A dysfunctional family travel on their VW bus to take their daughter to a beauty contest. This is truly one beautiful movie, an absolute must-watch.

6. The Best of Youth (La meglio gioventù 2003)

You might need to take your time watching this 6 hour and 40 min long movie but by the time it’s over you might wish it was longer. If you have any passion for Italy you and enjoy a good drama/romance you will adore this. This Italian epic follows the lives of two brothers, a free spirited Italian, and his idealistic brother who take different paths over the course of 40 years.

7. Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)

In this film, Woody Allen takes us to Spain, as we follow the story of two American women that are lured by a charming Spaniard to come to Barcelona and find themselves in a little adventure of food, art and sex. The passionate characteristic of Spain is very well shown in this very well done film.

8. Julie & Julia (2009)

This charming film takes us to Paris through food. Julie embarks on a project to cook all 524 recipes in Julia Childs’ cookbook, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.” At the same time, we get glimpses of Julia’s life and her passion for French cooking. Meryl Streep plays Julia and, as always, does a superb job.

9. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

Chances are you have seen this, but if not, I highly recommend this film about an Indian boy, his life in the streets of Mumbai, and his participation in the Indian version of the game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” It is thrilling, entertaining, shocking, and inspiring.

10. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2015)

You ought to watch the first film first, and then watch this sequel that takes us back to India and follows a mostly British cast and the evolvement of their lives as retirees in India. A colorful movie, in all senses.

11. Big Fish (2003)

This is a magical film about the power and importance of storytelling shown to us by the brilliant director Tim Burton. As Edward Bloom becomes really ill, his son travels to be with him and we are taken through Edwards life through beautiful stories that take place around the world.
