Some people like to choose their travel destination based on landmarks, museums, and outdoor activities. Nowadays, there is an increasing number of people nurturing a passion for food: the foodies! These people love visiting food markets, trying new restaurants, and cooking with new ingredients; finding pleasure whether it be sipping wine in Bordeaux, eating pizza in Naples, or having a one-of-a-kind dining experience at a Michelin-star restaurant in Copenhagen. Many companies are catching on to this movement and even offering world-class dining itineraries.

Below you will find the top 5 cities in Europe to experience a memorable culinary trip.

Paris, France

Paris is the city of love, but it’s also the ultimate foodie destination. Boasting a total of 125 Michelin stars, Paris exceeds culinary expectations. From the most exquisite macarons to succulent foie gras, you can find pleasure from sweet to savoury.

If you want a more casual experience, walk along Saint German, where you’ll find boulangeries, bistros, and cafes to delight your palate. Alternatively, grab an outdoor table at Bread & Roses, an organic bakery by the Luxembourg Gardens.

London, England

The great thing about London is its wide variety of cultures. Name any kind of cuisine and you can find it in London. Famous chefs, like Gordon Ramsay, have had a major influence in the gastronomic culture in London. Forget about the idea of bad English food and head to London to try one of the 65 Michelin- star restaurants, a great pub meal at The Albion, or some of the best international street food. London offers something for everyone.

Prague, Czech Republic

The Prague culinary experience is similar to the character of the city itself, combining history and culture with a sprinkle of modernization. After checking out the Charles Bridge, the best way to immerse yourself in the Czech culture is by tasting their meat-centric cuisine. Enjoy pork or beef dishes with the perfect pairing of Czech beer. (Psst, they say beer is cheaper than water here).

Head over to Sisters, where they offer a healthy twist on the traditional Czech party food, the chlebíčky, an open-faced sandwich.

Brussels, Belgium

Brussels is stunning, with medieval streets, magnificent architecture, and old squares, but its culinary culture is not one to be missed. Think beer and chocolate: two of Brussels’ best international exports. You may indulge in one of the many Michelin-star restaurants, sun soaked outdoor patios, and a cozy tavern for an ultimate foodie trip. Don’t miss the fish and chips at Noordzee.

San Sebastian, Spain

As a lesser known city, San Sebastian holds the second most Michelin stars per square meter in the entire world, beaten only by Kyoto. It’s an absolute foodie heaven where not only can you enjoy the best molecular gastronomy, you can also spend a little less and find culinary pleasure in the many pintxos bars. They offer tapas and specialties like La Mejillonera with mussels of all kinds.

No matter which of these cities you pick, you will have a foodie trip of a lifetime.

  1. Great post! I didn’t have a good foodie experience in London, but I definitely agree with your choices of Paris and Brussels. My own list might include Berlin and Milan as well.

    1. I guess when you have SO many options and such a vast array of cultures, like in London, you can definitely find some bad experiences.. or not as good at least. 🙂 Never been to Milan, and I was on a very tight budget when I went to Berlin, but I trust you can find amazing food at both.
