Portland Division Street is charming and quirky with many businesses to partake in some delicious treats or get primped up. So, after a stop at the cool barbershop (whether you are a guy needing a trim, or a gal accompanying your guy), both should head to Portland’s famous Salt & Straw ice cream shop. Colorful facades and other cool businesses are home to Division Street.
Last September my husband and I ended up in Portland to renew our Indian visas and go back to live in India. Almost a year later now (can’t believe how fast the year went!), we stayed in Oregon. Currently we live about 35 miles from Portland but I have gotten to know Portland a bit and I can confidently say that Portland is my favorite US city.
I think Portland’s amazingness has been kept a secret for many years and it is starting to come out.
Two of the many things Portland does right is ice cream shops and barbershops. We hit both on a summer Saturday in SE Division St right before our trip to The Dalles.
Rooks Traditional barbershop
Rooks Traditional barbershop offers classic men’s haircutting and styling services, as well as hot towel straight razor shaves, buzz cuts and kid’s cuts.
All services include a complimentary shot, craft beer, or soda and hot towel neck shave.
Salt & Straw Ice Cream Shop
Just a couple blocks down the street is Salt & Straw, Portland’s farm-to-cone ice cream shop which has been getting notable press nationwide. My first time at the NW location I wasn’t too impressed with my chosen flavor but after coming back two more times including the SE location, I was definitely happy.
I ordered the cucumber raspberry sorbet and hubby got salted caramel. Both were absolutely delicious.
We also got a couple lavender macarons to go with our ice creams.
Division Street
Division St is full of amazing local businesses.
We walked by the Townshend’s Tea House. A place I would love to come try, maybe when hubby gets another haircut.
And Coffee Division, a humble coffee shop serving great coffee.
This is where I waited with a macchiato while hubby tried the barbershop for the first time. The coffee was great, and the people-watching seating was too.
