Coffee shops – where life happens. How are coffee shops so pleasant? It’s the whole atmosphere to them, the chill vibe contrasted with energetic caffeine… People gather at coffee shops for many different reasons from catching up with friends, for a low-key first date, for a business meeting, for alone time without being judged, for doing university homework or freelance work. There are so many different uses for a coffee shop.
Take me as an example to confirm the magic (or wizardry) of coffee shops. I’m not a coffee drinker, never will you find me at home drinking coffee, I mean never; but take me to a coffee shop and I’ll absolutely have a coffee. It just tastes better there, whether it’s in the form of a cappuccino, cold brewed, or flavoured with chocolate, I’ll forgo my usual black tea for coffee (unless they have a London Fog).
And then there are the coffee shops in movies and TV. How many times have we seen characters spend so much time at such places? Friends probably being the most famous coffee shop show ever.
There are several coffee shops we’ve seen on screen that you can actually visit. You can go to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks coffee shop in North Bend, WA and talk about surrealist films, or head over to Elliott Bay Café in Seattle to talk about failed relationships like they did on Frasier, or why not have a more sophisticated cup of joe at the charming French coffee shop from Amélie.

I love lattes. I used to dislike the smell of coffee because I did not like coffee at all. But through years of occasionally having a coffee, I don’t mind the smell anymore. And that description of warm coffee on a cloudy, rainy morning and your car sounds very pleasant for some reason 🙂 even though “morning” and “pleasant” are an oxymoron in my world haha. Actually since morning is technically till 11:59am, it can definitely work. Early morning is a different story. 🙂
But coffee definitely can bring good things. I have an AMAZING memory that occurred at a coffee shop in 2008.
