Weekly Small Pleasures #127

Not a great week. Last Sunday I woke up with a fever and after a call to my doctor’s after-hours nurse line, I was sent a prescription for antibiotics to treat mastitis. New motherhood has truly been beating me up, but the beauty of it is that the result makes it all worth it. Having this little cute bundle of joy in my life is the best thing ever.

On Monday, the fever got worse and called the doctor again. Turns out the doctor doesn’t like the antibiotic that the nurse sent me so they sent me a different one to start. Ugh. I have to wait another 24 hours to feel better? (That’s about how long an antibiotic takes to kick in). But I did wake up feeling better the next day. So the rest of the week consisted of taking it easy while doing my routine taking care of my baby girl, and getting some chores and work done.

I also suffered from really bad neck pain this week. I don’t know where it came from.

Anyway.. because I skipped a few weeks of these posts I have to include a few pleasures from those skipped weeks including a full weekend from two weeks ago because it was great:

1. Wonderful weekend

Two weekends ago. It began by me heading out to the chiropractor. Not so fun, but I really needed it and felt much better. Then I stopped by some random tea shop for some cold tea. Then, instead of heading home, I decided to check out an Indian grocery store I’ve been wanting to check out since we moved. As I walked in I felt like a kid in a candy shop. I felt like I walked into India. All the typical things I buy there were now available 5 min away from my home. It made my day.

And then, I had to go straight to the massage place. Yup. I got an hour-long massage. this is something that I would not buy for myself ever, but my husband decided I needed it (I did) and booked me one the night before. Finally, I stopped by our favourite burger place in Austin for some takeout to bring home. Sunday was chill all day at home and watch my football team win.  Great weekend.

2. New music by one of my favourite artists

Frank Turner, whom I became an instant fan of when I was introduced to him by a dear friend last year, released a new single and will be releasing a new album.

3. Snuggles with my daughter

Her smiles still make my day, but this week I enjoyed lots of snuggle time.

4. New cookware

Last week I decided to use up some of my Amazon credit and treat myself to new cookware. I’ve had the same used pots and pans for years and I decided to get a new fry pan and a saute pan. I think the food will taste better now :p Because I am all about healthy cooking, I did do research on “healthy cookware”. The chemicals in regular nonstick can be quite harmful, for example.

5. Going out for a walk

Yesterday I went out for a 30 min walk to the nearby trail. I don’t get a chance to do this much and it’s always nice to be surrounded by nature. The weather was perfect too. 72 and cloudy. I even felt good enough to run part of it. It was the first time I run in months. (Couldn’t really the few months before and after delivery).

6. Fireplace

This was actually a super pleasure. I really love fireplaces and this is the first time we have one since our house in Durham, NC in 2013. And we lit it Friday night for the first time this season and since we moved. It was so lovely. I love the coziness and the crackling sound it makes and the warmth when it’s cool. It’s been getting pretty chilly at night.
