This week I had a nice variety of small pleasures:
1. I went to run a few errands and on the way back home I decided to buy my first iced coffee of the year and stop by a local “secret river beach” and just hang out and relax in the middle of the day. It was a wonderful peaceful moment of solitude. The only sounds I could hear were the river waves splashing by the shore and the occasional burst of wind which the sun kept warm from.

2. As a Mexican, I rarely cook any real Mexican food. My cooking style is more globalized and random but this week I went all in and bought some real Mexican fresh ingredients like poblano peppers, jalapeños, tomatillos, shallots, garlic, avocado, crema, oregano, cumin and smoked paprika. We enjoyed our meals tremendously. I made baked black bean and potato flautas with an avocado salsa verde and rajas con crema y elote; everything from scratch, even the beans! Some overdue real good homemade Mexican food.
3. I bought flowers. I don’t do this often and it was really nice to do so. Pink carnations. They were calling me for a home.
4. Hubby took me out to the city on Friday for drinks, a movie and dinner. It had been several weeks since I had gone down to Portland, and since I grew up in the city, I need my city fix once in a while. I had a lychee cocktail, we watched Timbuktu at the Living Room Theater and had dinner at our favorite Mexican place.
