¿Por Qué No? Taqueria in Portland, Oregon

The Por Que No Taqueria in Portland, Oregon is one of our favorite places to eat because their prices are good and the food is really tasty. They have two locations, in N and SE Portland.

The interior

The decor is quite eclectic and colorful. Even before you enter you can see the cheerfulness through the pink facade and the colorful umbrellas for outdoor seating.

The place is quite compact but you get to pick to eat inside, outside, or in their outside/inside area.

Ordering

You have to order at the counter and they give you a number. Then you pick a place to sit and they’ll bring the food to you. A rule in house is that you can’t save a table until you have a number.

They have rotating specials for tacos, soups, flautas and tamales.

Happy hour is from 3-6pm daily they also have reduced prices on Taco Tuesdays 3 pm-close.

They also have rotating aguas frescas which are really delicious ranging from pineapple, strawberry, guava, prickly pear, raspberry, mango and many more flavors. They always have horchata and jamaica available.

As I mentioned above, they have an outside/inside area. You have to go outside to get to it and then enter through the door in the picture above.

This time, we came around 11 am on a weekday which is why it’s pretty empty, but it definitely gets busy.

The Food

We ordered an horchata and a pineapple (piña) agua fresca.

Between the two of us, we also ordered a cup of chicken soup, a chicken verde taco, a fish taco (my favorite), and a Porque Plate which comes with your choice of meat, rice, beans, guacamole, salsa, salad, and tortillas.

Everything is outstanding.

All of the food is really fresh tasting and delicious. They make a point to support local economy by using line-caught fish, local meats, and remodeling with recycled materials.

This post is about the location in Mississippi Ave. I’ve never been to the other location but I’m sure it’s just as good.

  5. It’s very lively and I could see that as my vacation rental space. There’s quite a few Mexican restaurants in Toronto actually. I still have to visit Kensington market and take some photos.

  7. Cute place! Definitely something to seek out if I ever make it back to Portland. And I love the name. “Por qué no” was my default response whenever I would ask out a cute Chilanga and be turned down. 😀
