I have to say it was a pretty good week. Here are the small pleasures that made it pretty good:
1. Getting more sleep
Baby girl started sleeping more at night, doing a 5-hour stretch, which means I get to sleep more also. It’s really helping me feel better the next day.
I don’t know why, but my whole life sleep has been very important to me. I’ve always needed about 9 hours of sleep, and if I get too much or too little I feel bad the next day. I’ve never been a morning person either. I can’t function before 8 am. But now, all that is mixed up. I’m up in the middle of the night, and early morning, and during the day I try to take naps – something else that’s new for me. I’m trying to adjust to this new life, which will keep changing. But in the last two weeks, it’s been better. The first three, I have to say, were brutal.
2. Healthy baby girl
I actually meant to include this in the last WSP but forgot. I keep just “forgetting” to do things, I definitely attribute it to life with a newborn. Anyway, last week we had the 1-month checkup at the pediatrician and she’s doing great. She’s growing at healthy rates, not too much not too little and she has zero issues of any kind.
3. Cloudy and rainy weather
The weather finally dropped from high of 90s to 80s and we had several rainy and cloudy days this week, which I love.
4. Bassinet smile
This week I was greeted by a big smile when I went to pick up baby girl from her nap and it was awesome. She had been smiling but this was a first as she normally wakes up grumpy or crying. A pleasant surprise. Her smiles are the best thing ever.
5. Feeling better most days
Last week I wrote about how I was feeling bad most days and even talked about postpartum depression. This week was the first week since her birth that I felt good most days. I even picked up on more cooking – started to make meals from scratch like chicken noodle soup, curried lentils, and mashed potatoes and salmon.
6. Tea
This week I had my first cup of tea at home in at least 5 weeks (since the birth). This is always a pleasure for me.
7. Mandolin
Another thing I did this week for the first time in at least 5 weeks was play the mandolin. I began lessons back in April and stopped them a month before the baby due date and I haven’t been able to practice. It was nice, and I had an audience of one, but my back had been hurting pretty bad and playing made it hurt more 😦
Have a great week!
